The homeschooling mothers health is just as importantas that of her spiritual, mental, and intellectual condition! To be at our best, we must nurture our minds, souls, AND bodies! Many times we moms are so busy caring for our families, that we neglect to take proper care of our own physical health! Making a few simple changes and sticking to them can bring many short and long term benefits to our physical well-being.
EAT RIGHT!
Dear homeschooling mother, admit it! How many times have you sustained yourself by eating the left overs from your children's plates, or by grabbing a few crackers on your way past the pantry? The homeschooling mothers health depends upon her taking time to eat in a healthy way! Here are some ideas to help you in this area:
1) Eat six small meals a day. Keeping portions small and making sure that you eat six times per day helps retain energy and keeps blood sugar levels stable! Snacks in between main meals do not have to be elaborate, but should contain some needed protein or calcium, vitamin C, and a few carbohydrates spread throughout the day.
2) Choose food items that are good for you! Lots of fresh fruits and veggies, nuts or a little peanut butter, greens and beans...all of these things can help to improve the homeschooling mothers health. Steer clear of processed sugar items and selections that are high in the "unhealthy" fats! The problem is, it is usually the UNhealthy foods that are quick and convenient to "grab on the run". This is where your self-discipline comes in! Allow yourself adequate time to eat properly! You are worth it and it helps the entire family if you are maintaining a healthy body.
Water, Water, Water!
My sister looks 10-15 years younger than her age of 50+. Shefirmly believes it is due to the fact that she drinks almost nothing but water; and does that constantly throughout the day! Don't let yourself become dehydrated! Did you know that if you FEEL very thirsty, the dehydration has already begun to set in? It's TRUE! A person in good physical condition drinks enough water that they are seldom "parched". These easy tips will help you achieve this goal:
1) Every time you go to the bathroom, take a big drink of water. Since you are pausing to wash your hands anyway, this is a very convenient time to refresh yourself with a tall, cool drink! This is a super-quick and easy way to improve the homeschooling mothers health!
2) Add a little zest! Keep a few sliced lemons or limes in the refrigerator and squeeze them into your ice water during the day. This adds variety and makes you feel like you are having a little something more than just water.
3) Keep a nice tall pitcher of ice water in the fridge! Always knowing that there is COLD water available is more inviting than taking a drink from the tap. (Of course, you can carry bottled water with you throughout the day, but PLEASE BE AWARE of the suspected health dangers of letting plastic bottles sit in the car or where sunshine is reflecting! Studies are showing that the plastic contains cancer-causing chemicals, which, when heated, leak into the water and are then absorbed into your system.)
4) Drink in between each class! Every time the kids are moving on to another subject, pause a moment and give everyone a drink of water.
Drinking water and staying well-hydrated is a great way to reduce headaches and irritability! The homeschooling mothers health can be compromised if she is frequently suffering from headaches or an irritable disposition. If either of these things is a problem for you, try increasing your water intake and see if it helps!
