Try these free-worksheets to print for extra Science fun!

You can print these free-worksheets to use when you are

looking for some creative ideas to supplement your Science

fun!

OBSERVATION is an important and fundamental Science skill but it

needn't be mundane nor boring in order to be effective.

Try some of these ideas with your young Scientists and you'll soon

find the whole family wanting to get in on the fun!

SEE HOW THEY GROW!

Click our FREE CHART link below and either save a copy of the

file to your computer for later use...or print one copy for

each of your students right here from

our site by right-clicking on the chart

and selecting "print".

Now they can record their data throughout this observation

activity in the months ahead! We've saved you time by creating

the chart FOR YOU! And don't worry about trying to remember the

instructions! We've copied those for you as well! You'll find a

link below!

The purpose of this free-worksheets activity is to

teach your children how to

record observations in an organized manner over an extended

period of time.

For added fun, allow everyone to make a

prediction at the start

of this activity and see if anyone's guess is correct at the end!

Kids LOVE to see how tall they are getting and

if you have several

children close in age, it almost becomes a

race to see who grows the most in a year!

Decide how often you will measure the children. (Two month

intervals seems to work well.)

Find a place that has a flat, blank surface where you won't mind

markings on the wall.

(We use the inside of our front closet door!)

Every two months use a measuring tape or yard stick and mark the

heights of each child on the wall or door. Add the appropriate

name by each measurement. Now have the kids record their own

height in their personal journal. Make sure they have added the

date next to the measurement (Two columns works well for this)

You can be more creative if you like by allowing the kids to

keep track of EVERYONE'S height in the journal...or by adding

things such as shoe size or clothing size to the list of

measurements. Add a little MATH FUN by having the kids figure out

how much they have grown since the first measurement was taken!

This activity lasts all year and don't worry about forgetting ...

Your kids will be sure to remind you that it's TIME TO MEASURE!

LISTEN MY CHILDREN, AND YOU SHALL HEAR!

Observation involves more than just SEEING. All of our senses are

involved. Learning to LISTEN is a

valuable skill and helps children

to develop not only good scientific skills, but good

communication skills as well!

While this activity is best done outdoors, it is not necessary

and can be carried out anywhere you choose.

More free-worksheets coming soon!

Have the students sit apart from one another, very still, very

quiet, with their eyes CLOSED.

For the next two minutes, they are to do nothing but LISTEN!

Remind them that the point of the exercise is to try to remember

as much of what they hear as possible. They should not comment

out loud as they go along, but silently keep the sounds they

hear in mind.

When the two minutes are up, invite each student to write a list

of every sound they heard.

Children too young to write can still take part in this activity

by dictating their sounds to an older brother or sister (or

MOM) for recording on paper.

Repeat this exercise from time to time and see if listening

skills improve. (It might be fun to save each list and compare

them at a later date. It's also fun to compare the list to

others, seeing how many people hear the same things.)

NOTE: You can make a game of this activity by playing it like

Boggle...the items heard are read aloud at the end...and any

item on the paper of someone else must be crossed off. The

winner is the person who has the most items left on their list!
