Raising a family takes a lot of time and effort! When considering the benefits-of-homeschooling, we know that parents want the best for their children's education...and in this day and age there are so many options and choices that it can become quite overwhelming for the average family!
We'd like you to consider HOMESCHOOLING as your educational choice for your family!
The benefits-of-homeschooling FAR OUTWEIGH the inconveniences, and it's a lifestyle that can help your family grow in FAITH, LOVE, and JOY!
Some benefits-of-homeschooling:
1) One of the benefits-of-homeschooling is that it offers you, as parents, the freedom and ability to teach, incorporate, and practice your personal convictions, beliefs, and moral structures throughout the academic day. Your children do not have to "set their faith aside" when they enter the classroom...quite the opposite...their faith is WELCOMED and able to be interwoven in every subject, every day!
2) The ability to "teach to the child" and not "to the test"is one of the HUGE benefits-of-homeschooling! By doing some research on
TEACHING METHODS
and learning styles, you can discern HOW BEST TO TEACH YOUR CHILD. You can design the curriculum so that your child's strengths and abilities are best optimized; as well as offer the styles/methods that will help strengthen his/her weakest areas of learning. Homeschooling does not simply impart information to a student, so that they can remember it and repeat it on a test at a later date.Rather, it allows you to approach your child's learning in the way that will help him/her reach their FULLEST ACADEMIC POTENTIAL...and in a way that will educate the WHOLE PERSON!
3) As stated above, one of the great benefits-of-homeschooling is the opportunity to EDUCATE THE WHOLE PERSON; body, mind, and SOUL! Too often, in today's outside educational system, the mind is separated from the other two, and is the only aspect of the person being addressed in the classroom. To forsake one (body, mind, or soul) is to forsake them all, for they are so closely intertwined! Homeschooling allows you, the parent/teacher, to nurture, tend, and help form each and all aspects of your child so that they see education as a BLESSING and GIFT OF GOD...and so that they realize that to truly learn, they MUST CARE for their body, mind, AND soul at all times.
4) The freedom to choose curriculum and design your child's learning experience is also part of the wonderful benefits-of-homeschooling. Whether you enroll is a pre-packaged curriculum, or start from scratch, choosing each text, program, and supplemental resource yourself...you can CUSTOMIZE your child's education...again, so that he/she has the opportunity to reach his/her FULLEST LEARNING POTENTIAL!
5) Through homeschooling, your children are blessed to be able to study and learn at their own pace! There is no more being "bored" because they can't advance until "the whole class" is finished...subsequently, there is also no more struggling and suffering to keep up with "the whole class" if a concept is not being grasped and mastered. These two benefits can make all the difference in your child's educational experience! You can take AS MUCH TIME AS YOU NEED to review, and try different approaches...(or even get tutoring assistance) until your child TRULY UNDERSTANDS the lesson and is ready to move forward. Several of my own children have stated that they consider this aspect to be one of their own greatest personal benefits-of-homeschooling!
6) You are free to give your child the opportunity to pursue a personal passion and interest in the classroom. This is a GREAT way to begin to discern your children's future vocations, as they can be allowed to digress from the topic if a sub-interest develops, and given time to dig into that interest for deeper knowledge and understanding! This is the path to REAL GROWTH in education. So many times, in outside schools, children are not given an opportunity to DELVE further into the subjects and topics that interest them, simply because the teacher must keep to the syllabus and must keep moving forward with the others in class...she/he doesn't have TIME to address each student's desire to learn more about a topic. YES, students could do that on their own time outside of school...but how many WILL? Some perhaps...but not near as many as you will see in the homeschooling atmosphere! Truly this benefits your child, not only now, but in the future as well!
7) FAMILY UNITY is listed here as #7...but is perhaps one of THE GREATEST BLESSINGS of learning at home! Today's families are under attack. They are hurting...they are STRUGGLING for time to have even a meal together in the rush and hub-bub of the rat race. Without a doubt, every single one of my children states that this is their favorite part of their home education! WE CAN BE TOGETHER EVERY DAY! When you choose home study for your children's education, you will be immediately blessed with FAMILY TIME...time to pray, work, play, learn, and GROW together. For many, this will truly become one of the GREATEST benefits-of-homeschooling!
8) Unfortunately, one of the common myths about choosing homeschooling is that children are not getting a true example of the REAL WORLD...In fact, this couldn't be FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH! The homeschool classroom itself is more closely related to the environment of the REAL WORLD in which your children will one day function than any classroom outside the home. Why? Well...how many times, in adult life, and in the work force, will your child find him/herself surrounded by peers who are almost exactly their age, and who are learning the same things at the same level for eight hours a day? In a home study program, the setting IS real life...you find a diverse group of people, different ages, different levels, and different personalities (which shine forth because of the lack of pressure to conform)...Students MUST LEARN to accept others' differences, RELATE ON DIFFERENT LEVELS, and function in a group that is NOT tailored to be exactly like them!
9) Another myth commonly put forth in the public eye about homeschooling, is that it lacks the ability to provide socialization for your children. Again, this is simply NOT TRUE. Homeschooling does, however, ENABLE YOU, THE PARENT, to be PROACTIVE in your discernment and choice regarding the TYPE of socializing your children will do. You are no longer enslaved to the underlying agenda and influences of others as to "what your children need" or "what is appropriate"...When you bring your children home to teach them...YOU can decide in what activities they will take part (keeping the WHOLE PERSON;body, mind, and soul and what YOU believe is GOOD FOR THEM in mind). You are also now free to OPT OUT of certain activities or experiences that you DO NOT FEEL offer the best benefits for your children, and can spend your time finding the entertainment, fellowship, and enrichment that is BEST FOR YOUR INDIVIDUAL FAMILY. Through extra curricular activities, co-ops (elective classes where large groups of homeschoolers get together for a pre-set amount of time...6 wks, once a month, etc...), and other events, your children will be as busy and social as you desire. In fact,we have enjoyed MORE socialization in homeschooling than we did when my eldest children attended outside schools.
10) Teaching your own children SAVES MONEY AND TIME! You'll have no more pressure to "get to school on time"...no more lunch money...no more signing STACKS of parental permissions...no more "busy work" homework...no more parent/teacher conference (YOU know your child...YOU know how well he/she is doing at HOME!)While you still must purchase supplies for a home study program...this again, is COMPLETELY designed and chosen by YOU, based on YOUR FAMILY'S NEEDS.
11) Your children will be free from the IMMENSE peer pressures to conform once they are learning at home. This IS a great blessing as they will now be FREE to develop who they are...to embrace their own unique personality, gifts, and abilities without fear of rejection or repercussions! It is a sad fact in the USA today, that hazing and taunting and outside pressures have reached dangerous levels in our school system! Bringing your children home is not HIDING from these things...but rather, MAKING A PROACTIVE CHOICE TO PROVIDE AN ENVIRONMENT WHERE YOUR CHILD CAN BE HIM/HERSELF AND REACH THEIR FULL POTENTIAL!
12) And finally, an added benefit, and good reason to homeschool, is the opportunity to learn along-side your children!Whether you have a Masters Degree, or never attended college, YOU WILL BE LEARNING (as you teach) in ways that you did not expect! Learning along-side my children, and educating the WHOLE PERSON has instilled in me a TRUE LOVE OF LEARNING that I did NOT have before these ventures. LIFE BECOMES A CLASSROOM and every moment is an OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN!
