More About Your Spiritual Health

Now that we have established that good spiritual health comes
from celebrating your faith life and making time for prayer, let's
take a look at some other ways that help you to stay strong
in this area.
Worthwhile Reading

Homeschooling mothers usually put a lot of effort into choosing
worthwhile books for their students to read. They will pour through
catalogs, inquire among friends, research reading lists, and keep
updated on new authors and publishings.
To stay healthy spiritually, it is important for you to
provide yourself with good books to read as well!
Make time to read things that uplift, strengthen, support,
encourage, and enlighten your spirit!
You need not have time to get through a book cover-to-cover in
one or two sittings. It is fine to read a paragraph here and a
page there as time allows. One of my favorite ways to read is
when I'm up with a newborn baby in the night! Baby gets all
snuggled into my shoulder and we walk to and fro around the
kitchen...I can easily hold a small book or place it nearby on a
counter top and take in a chapter or two undisturbed by other
interruptions!
I'd like to share some of my favorite books with you!

FELLOWSHIP

True friends are a gift of the Lord!
When striving to strengthen your spirit, having a few
true and close friends can be an invaluable help to you!
Ask the Lord to bless you with other women who will support
and encourage you in your vocation. (It also helps to distance
yourself from any relationship you might now have that DOESN'T
support or encourage you in your vocation.)
Whether you are pen-pals, or gather occasionally for a
Mom's Night, talk on the phone once in a while, or chat online,
the point is to engage in conversation, prayer, and activities
with other women who are walking the same journey as you.
It nurtures the spirit to have someone who will lift you up
when you are down, admonish you when needed, and praise the Lord
with you in all things.
Life as a homeschooling mother can have periods of loneliness
attached to it. These times are more easily withstood if you
have a shoulder to lean on or a friendly ear in which to confide.
Embrace Your State in Life!

Another key to keeping yourself in good spiritual health is to
embrace your state-in-life and try to live it out joyfully each
day.
The weakness of comparing yourself to others is a common culprit
that attacks many homeschooling moms! She does it better, they have
it easier, her kids are so obedient, their books are top of the
line, her husband is so involved, etc...
This does nothing to build a strong spirit in your vocation and
everything to break it down!
Your loving Father in Heaven has allowed you to be exactly
where you are right now in your journey. Embrace it! Look for
the joy that surrounds you and accept where you are and who you
are wholeheartedly.
St. Francis De Sales said "Do not seek to be anything by what
you are, and try to be that perfectly".
We honor God when we offer Him our joy and contentment in our
daily homeschooling lives. If we answer each call to duty with
love and commitment and a willingness to persevere and try our
best, then we show our Father in Heaven our gratitude and we open
ourselves to the many graces He wishes to send to help us.
It is healthy for our spirits when we embrace our states-in-life
and live them wholeheartedly with the JOY that comes from Christ.
